We're Celebrating!



Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, we’re celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Beach House!

Our weekend-long community open house features a variety of free, family-friendly programs including beach activities and games, ballroom-style dance classes, music and dance performances, tours of the Guest House and more. Drop in and check out the fun. From a morning yoga class, to an interactive bubble making show, or a sunset picnic and screening of silent comedy Show People starring Marion Davies, the celebration offers an exciting array of activities with something for everyone to enjoy. Parking is extremely limited. Guests are encouraged to bike or walk to the Beach House. Free bike valet will be provided. Additional public parking lots are located to the north and south of the Beach House.

9:00 a.m. - 9:55 a.m. Yoga on the Beach with Brad Keimach, bring yoga mat or towel
9:30 a.m. & 10:45 a.m. Paddleboard Lessons, with $15 reservations. Reserve here.

Sun 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Beach games and activities, a throwback to a simpler era: tug of war, sack races, and more
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Site tours with Beach House architect and landscape architect
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Self-guided tours of the historic Guest House with Santa Monica Conservancy docents

Saturday, April 26 - A Salute to Marion Davies
9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. 

11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Pool passes available at Guest Services on a first come, first served basis. Pool deck opens at 12:15 p.m., Aqualillies perform at 12:45 p.m., open swim begins at 1:00 p.m.
12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m Ballroom dance showcase with students from the Santa Monica/Malibu Unified School District
12:45 p.m. - 12:55 p.m. Aqualillies performance, the world’s most glamorous synchronized swimmers
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Pool deck is open for open swim
1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Snap Yourself Photo Booth, a souvenir photo
1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. Ballroom dance lessons, popular 1920’s dances taught by famed instructor Danny Ponickly: Tango, Waltz, and Foxtrot
2:45 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Ballroom dance lessons, more beginner-friendly dance: Swing and Salsa
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Open dancing, step out on the dance floor to show off newly acquired dance skills
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Beach picnic, bring a picnic, beach chairs, and blankets, and stay to watch the film
6:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m Doozy, Prohibition-era pop musical performance
7:45 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. Silent movie on the sand, screening of Show People, a 1928 comedy starring Marion Davies, musically accompanied by Doozy

Sunday, April 27 - A Day at the Beach House
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Volleyball skills and drills, workshops for all ages
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Snap Yourself Photo Booth, a souvenir photo
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. DJ’s spinning beach songs, plus a dance contest
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Pool passes available at Guest Services on a first come, first served basis
12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Pool deck is open for open swim
12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.    Beach picnic, bring a picnic, beach chairs, and blankets
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Kite flying and kite making with master kite artists, coordinated by Richard Shelton and Matthew Tecle


PARKING An extremely limited number of parking spaces are available at the Beach House for $3/hour or $12/day on a first come, first served basis. Parking at other City lots south of the Beach House is $10/day.

BIKE OR WALK The Beach House is easily accessible by foot or by bike from the Pacific Coast Bike Trail, which winds along the western edge of the facility. Free bike valet will be available. 

BUS  The Big Blue Bus stops at the intersection of Entrada Dr./Channel Rd. and Pacific Coast Highway, about 1/4 mile north of the Beach House. To plan your route, visit

COST The event is free and open to all, no reservations required, with the exception of paddleboard lessons, which cost $15 per person and require advance registration. Registrations start April 9. Click here reserve a spot.

FOOD Back on the Beach Cafe will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will be serving a full menu for dine-in or takeaway, and will offer beach equipment rentals including sand chairs, umbrellas, and more.
